Baseball Game Preview: Coalinga Horned Toads vs. Mendota Aztecs

Coalinga is on a three-game streak of home losses, and Mendota a four-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Friday. The Coalinga Horned Toads will welcome the Mendota Aztecs at 4:00 p.m. Mendota took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Coalinga, who comes in off a win.

Coalinga is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Avenal get on the board and left with a 21-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Gracin Redding was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Redding was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five runs and three RBI.

In other batting news, Jesus 'Chuy' Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Coalinga is 2-1 when Gonzalez posts two or more runs, but 2-8 otherwise. Landon Martin was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Coalinga was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2025.

Meanwhile, Mendota came up short against Dos Palos on Tuesday and fell 7-3.

Coalinga's victory bumped their record up to 4-9. As for Mendota, their loss dropped their record down to 8-10.

Coalinga beat Mendota 10-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Do the Horned Toads have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Aztecs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
