Baseball Recap: Tocoi Creek Snaps Five-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

If Tocoi Creek was riding high fresh off their 8-1 takedown of Nease last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tocoi Creek Toros took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the St. Augustine Yellow Jackets on Friday. The Toros were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Yellow Jackets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Tocoi Creek got a good showing from Wyatt Faircloth, who pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Faircloth has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Nate Wade was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he launched this season. Chase Pate was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Tocoi Creek's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for St. Augustine, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tocoi Creek will square off against Clay at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Clay's pitching crew has only allowed 2.2 runs per game this season, so Tocoi Creek's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Augustine, they will take on Seabreeze at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Seabreeze will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something St. Augustine surely won't give up without a fight.
