Baseball Recap: Mitchell Bluejackets vs. Borden Braves
Mitchell had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They put the hurt on the Borden Braves with a sharp 12-5 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Mitchell also won the last time the pair played back in March of 2023.
Simon Gaines and Ben Seitzinger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Gaines pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Seitzinger tossed four innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. At bat, Gaines scored three runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Seitzinger scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, AJ Sarver was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, a stolen base, and a run. Ashton Luman was another key contributor, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.
On Borden's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Schuler, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Even though they lost, Borden hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mitchell struck out eight times.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mitchell will face off against Shoals at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Borden, they will head out on the road to take on Floyd Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
