Softball Game Preview: North Stafford Wolverines vs. Colonial Forge Eagles

North Stafford is 8-2 against Colonial Forge since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Wolverines are taking a road trip to face off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (North Stafford has five straight wins, Colonial Forge has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

If North Stafford beats Colonial Forge with nine runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Wolverines came out on top against Brooke Point by a score of 9-4 on Friday.

Kaylie DeChicchis was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out 16 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Christian Ellis was excellent, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Kayla Suber also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Colonial Forge came up short against Stafford on Friday and fell 10-5. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly five runs.

North Stafford pushed their record up to 8-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Colonial Forge, they now have a losing record of 6-7.

North Stafford beat Colonial Forge 9-5 when the teams last played on Wednesday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolverines since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
