Recap: Union Spartans vs. North Duplin Rebels
After a string of three wins, the Union Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They were the victim of a tough 59-34 loss at the hands of North Duplin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Union in their matchups with North Duplin: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Union lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ariyona Spearman. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points. That was a full 50% of Union's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Zadariyah Faison was another key contributor, scoring five points along with four steals.
Union's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-4. As for North Duplin, they pushed their record up to 9-6 with that victory, which was their 14th straight at home.
Union will take on Hobbton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hobbton comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for North Duplin, they will head out on the road to face off against Rosewood at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Rosewood will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 510th, while North Duplin is ranked 231st).
