Vacaville Christian extended their winning streak to 12 on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 14-4 in the process. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 12-11 W against the Golden Sierra Grizzlies. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Falcons, who until this matchup were averaging 3.67 runs allowed.
Dylan Eddings made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zachary Romeo was excellent, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
As for Golden Sierra, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-6. Even if they couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Like Vacaville Christian, Golden Sierra also got a great game from a two-way player: Ethan Caruthers. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Caruthers has allowed since back in March. He was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
In other batting news, Bruce Rayford made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Michael Goski was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Vacaville Christian will have a chance to go back-to-back against Golden Sierra: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
