Basketball Recap: Alcoa Takes a Loss

Alcoa and Gatlinburg-Pittman squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Alcoa had to settle for second. They fell 72-63 to the Gatlinburg-Pittman Highlanders. Unfortunately, that's the fourth time they've come up short against the Highlanders this season, with their most recent loss being a 84-81 defeat last Monday.

It was another big night for Chloe Mejias, who shot 80% from the field to rack up 24 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals for Gatlinburg-Pittman. Thanks to that strong game, Mejias now owns an excellent 46.1% field goal percentage. Addi Wear was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Alcoa's defeat dropped their record down to 22-7. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 23-11 record this season.

Alcoa will venture away from home to challenge McMinn Central on Saturday. McMinn Central will roll in looking for their 29th straight victory, something Alcoa surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gatlinburg-Pittman, they will host Meigs County at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Gatlinburg-Pittman's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matches.
