Beavers get big commitment from 6-foot-10 in-state junior.
Maika Ostling of
Dayton (Ore.) made a verbal commitment Thursday to Oregon State, according to Team Jones program director Benjie Hedgecock
Ostling, a 6-foot-10 post player rated No. 81 in MaxPreps.com's 2012 Top 100, picked the Beavers over Colorado, Gonzaga, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington State among others.
Born in Tonga, Ostling is averaging 11.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game this season for Dayton, one of Oregon's top small-school teams. The Pirates are 14-5 with three of those losses coming against large-school competition at December's Les Schwab Invitational.
Ostling posted similar numbers as a sophomore as Dayton went 27-3 and reached Oregon's Class 3A state title game.
