Softball Recap: Midland Christian Victorious

On Thursday, the Midland Christian Mustangs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Fort Stockton Panthers 9-7.

Maddy Munoz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on 13 hits and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Marisela Hernandez, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Nevaeh Williams was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Hernandez wasn't the only one working in the home run department: Midland Christian lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Midland Christian's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Fort Stockton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-9 record this season.

Midland Christian will head out to take on Pecos at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Stockton, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Seminole at 11:00 a.m.
