Basketball Recap: Corona/Vaughn Snaps 12-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

After flying high against Carrizozo last Wednesday, Corona/Vaughn came back down to earth. The Corona/Vaughn Cardinals were outmatched by the Santa Fe Indian Braves and fell 64-37. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Cardinals, who until this matchup were averaging 29.09 points allowed.

Kassidy Lightfoot and Harper Dunn certainly did their best on Thursday to avoid the loss. Lightfoot went 8 of 17 on her way to 20 points and six boards, while Dunn almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 15 rebounds. Dunn is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 20 games she's played dating back to last season.

Even though they lost, Corona/Vaughn smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive games.

Corona/Vaughn's loss ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-3. As for Santa Fe Indian, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Corona/Vaughn won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Hot Springs at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Corona/Vaughn's defense has only allowed 29.1 points per game this season, so Hot Springs' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Santa Fe Indian, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Silver at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
