League recap: Coronado paces 5A Region I District 1 with five wins over past week

5A Region I District 1 league recap: 3/8/13

Top honors in the league this week go to Coronado, which finished with five wins overall, good for best in the league. The Thunderbirds beat Eastlake 7-4, Mountain View 13-2 and Faith Christian 8-5.

Montwood's Noel Pinon was the best pitcher in 5A Region I District 1 this week. He won one game and struck out eight batters.

The Rams' pitching staff had a strong showing this week, allowing only 35 hits and nine walks, both of which led the league.

Three batters hit over .400 this week. Leading the pack was Joe Galindo, who hit .500 by going 10-for-20.

The most RBI in the league this week belonged to Montwood's Joe Galindo, who drove in eight. For the year, he has racked up 16 RBIs, good for first in the league.



Eder Erives struck out 13 in the Rams' 6-0 win over Grapevine on February 28. He gave up four hits and zero runs over seven innings of work.
