Baseball Recap: Calhoun Takes Down Needville in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Calhoun had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They came out on top against the Needville Bluejays by a score of 9-4. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 8-2 victory on Saturday.

Ricky Martinez was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Demetrio Rodriguez, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles.

The victory made it two in a row for Calhoun and bumps their season record up to 16-14-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Needville, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season.

Calhoun will square off against Tuloso-Midway on Thursday. The Warriors & Cherokees will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Sandcrabs surely won't give up without a fight. Needville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
