Opp is 8-2 against Straughn since August of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bobcats will take on the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. Straughn took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Opp, who comes in off a win.
Opp's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They blew past Ashford 22-0. The result was nothing new for the Bobcats, who have now won five matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
The critical scores for Opp came from Matthew Morgan, Saban Sasser, and Savon Barnes.
Opp was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 197 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.
Opp didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Luke Sanders and Barnes. Opp received some extra help from Barnes, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Straughn was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 13-10 heartbreaker at the hands of New Brockton.
Opp will need to focus on slowing down Charlie Jordan, one of several Straughn players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 77 yards and one score.
Opp's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Straughn, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Opp has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 242.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Straughn struggles in that department as they've been averaging 306.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Opp against Straughn in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 46-7 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bobcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
