Baseball Game Preview: Lakeland Vikings vs. Skyline Tigers

Lakeland is 1-7 against Skyline since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Vikings will challenge the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lakeland lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Humansville, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's contest. The Vikings never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Vikings.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Friday. Skyline put the hurt on Lockwood with a sharp 8-0 win.

Not much got past Dakota Carlisle, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Lockwood off the board.

At the plate, Skyline saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paxton Foster, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Logan Moppin was another, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Skyline is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lakeland, their win bumped their record up to 7-4.

Everything went Lakeland's way against Skyline when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Lakeland made off with a 9-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
