Softball Recap: South's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

South came into Tuesday's match having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 7-2 win over the West Vikings on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Spartans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Sienna Lopez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kloie Wetmore, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Jaslyn Chavez, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They are 5-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

South now has a winning record of 8-7. As for West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: South beat West by a score of 19-4 on Thursday.
