Softball Recap: Mckeesport's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

McKeesport barely beat Gateway the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Gators with a sharp 13-2 win on Monday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Tigers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Ryenn Thomas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing six bases while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Esiah Harper was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-4. Jessica Miller was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

McKeesport always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .590. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gateway only posted an OBP of .273.

McKeesport picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Gateway, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.

McKeesport will head out to face off against Franklin Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Tigers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 6.4 runs per game this season. As for Gateway, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kiski Area at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
