Basketball Recap: Laporte Comes Up Short

Laporte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 91-25 defeat at the hands of the Kelliher/Northome Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 350th, while the Mustangs are ranked 164th).

Kelliher/Northome's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kate Thayer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 25 points and ten steals. Thayer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 37 games she's played dating back to last season. Kylee Binkley was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 19 points and nine steals.

Laporte's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Kelliher/Northome, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Laporte has already played their next game (against Win-E-Mac), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kelliher/Northome will take on Bigfork at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Kelliher/Northome is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), Bigfork a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
