Baseball Recap: Basalt Longhorns vs. Roaring Fork Rams
While Basalt didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over the Roaring Fork Rams on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Longhorns have won by just one run.

Taylor Hays was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Hays wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Parker Sims, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Sims has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another was Karson Schneider, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
The win made it two in a row for Basalt and bumps their season record up to 7-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Roaring Fork, they dropped their record down to 3-10 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Basalt will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rams: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
