Preview: Gilman City Hawks vs. Worth County Tigers

The Gilman City Hawks will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Worth County Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Last Monday, Gilman City sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 53-51 win over Northeast Nodaway.

Even though Worth County has not done well against North Andrew recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Worth County had just enough and edged North Andrew out 60-58. Given Worth County's advantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while North Andrew is ranked 452nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tyler New was his usual excellent self, scoring 31 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Worth County's points. Another player making a difference was Caleb New, who scored 17 points.

The win got Gilman City back to even at 4-4. As for Worth County, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.

Gilman City was dealt a bruising 86-46 loss at the hands of Worth County when the teams last played back in February of 2018. Thankfully for Gilman City, Cade Allee (who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 29 points and 2 assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
