Peyton Williams and Katelyn West made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Williams pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Meanwhile, West pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Williams went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base, while West went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Williams a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aubrie Kaufman, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Victoria Jennings, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Uwharrie Charter Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Southwestern Randolph had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Thursday. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 6-0 win. Give the Cougars' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Southwestern Randolph's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-8.
