Basketball Recap: Philip Barbour Comes Up Short

Philip Barbour was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their tenth straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Tucker County Mountain Lions, falling 68-40. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Colts of the 96-82 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2016.

Tucker County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Garrett Wilfong led the charge by going 6 for 9 on his way to 16 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. Those eight steals gave Wilfong a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevan Bonner, who went 8 of 12 on his way to 19 points and six rebounds.

Philip Barbour's defeat dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Tucker County, the win keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.

Philip Barbour will challenge Petersburg at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Tucker County and East Hardy will round out the year against one another at at 5:45 p.m. on Monday. Tucker County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully East Hardy likes a good challenge.
