Preview: Granville Central Panthers vs. Carrboro Jaguars
The Granville Central Panthers will head out on the road to square off against the Carrboro Jaguars at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Granville Central is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Granville Central's strategy against Vance County on Wednesday. Granville Central blew past Vance County 62-40. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Granville Central has posted against Vance County since January 7, 2022.
Meanwhile, Carrboro pushed their score all the way to 71 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. Their tough 96-71 defeat to South Granville might stick with them for a while. Carrboro has struggled against South Granville recently, as their match on Tuesday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Carrboro had strong showings from Brody Gagne, who scored 20 points along with two steals and two blocks, and Bakari Watkins, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gagne has scored all season. Myles Gary was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Granville Central's win bumped their record up to 11-5. As for Carrboro, their loss dropped their record down to 8-8.
Granville Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Carrboro when the teams last played back in February of 2023, winning 60-49. Will Granville Central repeat their success, or does Carrboro have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
