Softball Game Preview: York Dukes vs. Proviso West Panthers

York is a perfect 10-0 against Proviso West since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Dukes will be playing at home against the Panthers at 4:45 p.m. York will be strutting in after a win while Proviso West will be coming in after a loss.

York took a eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Oak Park-River Forest, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Dukes narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Huskies 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Avery Kanouse made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Kanouse was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Gia Valentin was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Sara Steinecker was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

York lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Proviso West was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 22nd straight loss dating back to last season. They came up short against Lyons, falling 16-0.

York has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-10 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Proviso West, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-9.

York took their victory against Proviso West in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 18-0 score. Will the Dukes repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
