Softball Recap: Charlestown Has No Trouble Against Rising Sun

Charlestown won the last time they faced Rising Sun and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over the Shiners. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Hannah Burns made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Burns was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Watkins, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Avarie Freiberger was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.

Charlestown kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rising Sun only managed five hits.

Charlestown now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Rising Sun, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-2.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Charlestown beat the Shiners by a score of 9-3 later that day.
