Basketball Recap: Servite Takes a Loss

After flying high against United Christian Academy on Monday, Servite came back down to earth. The Friars took a hard 67-51 fall against the Damien Spartans on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Friars of the 59-44 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2021.

Despite the defeat, Servite saw an underclassman step up: freshman Tariq Johnson shot 50% from the field en route to 17 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Jake Schutt was another key player, putting up six points along with nine boards and five steals.

Servite's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Damien, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Coming up, Servite will face off against Loyola at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. As for Damien, they will take on St. Bernard on the 28th.
