Softball Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. Perry Commodores

Elgin has gone a perfect 8-0 against Perry recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Comets will head out to challenge the Commodores at 5:00 p.m. Perry took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Elgin, who comes in off a win.

On Monday, Elgin was able to grind out a solid win over Upper Scioto Valley, taking the game 8-4. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Comets.

Madison Hill made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Gracelyn Edmonstone was excellent, going 1-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Atha, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Perry was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 15-1 to Waynesfield-Goshen.

Elgin's record now sits at 5-10. As for Perry, their loss dropped their record down to 0-11.

Elgin took their victory against Perry in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Comets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
