Softball Recap: Cretin-Derham Hall Takes a Loss

Cretin-Derham Hall had lost four straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 5-4 to make it five. They fell 4-1 to the Mankato East Cougars. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Brooke Nesdahl spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Maddie Mulcahy was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Camille Castro, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Mankato East, the win keeps they at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games.

On Mankato East's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kylinn Stangl gave up only one earned run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Emily Hacker, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Kenley Staunton was another key player, earning two runs and two stolen bases.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cretin-Derham Hall will head out to face off against Forest Lake at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Mankato East, they will square off against Mankato West at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
