Basketball Recap: Tyce Melvin Key Part of a Team Effort in Bluejays Win

Norton won the last time they faced Thomas More Prep-Marian and things went their way on Monday too. The Norton Bluejays walked away with a 48-40 win over the Thomas More Prep-Marian Monarchs. Given the Bluejays' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Monarchs are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Norton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyce Melvin, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to six assists and six boards. Those six assists gave Melvin a new career-high. Rylen Murray was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Norton has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.8 points per game. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Norton Bluejays face off against the Trego Golden Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Norton is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games. As for Thomas More Prep-Marian, they will host Great Bend at 7:30 p.m. on January 28th.
