Baseball Recap: Nimitz Takes a Loss

If Nimitz was riding high fresh off their 9-3 takedown of Westfield last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Cougars lost 16-8 to the Benjamin Davis Falcons on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 9-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Jose Miranda stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Nimitz: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Curtis, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

Nimitz has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Benjamin Davis, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-8-1.

While Nimitz had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
