Basketball Recap: King Takes a Loss

King lost against Steinbrenner back in January of 2021, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The King Lions took a blow against the Steinbrenner Warriors, falling 86-18. The Lions just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Despite the defeat, King saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Heaven Pyfrom posted 14 points and three steals. That's the most steals Pyfrom has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Pinkney, who earned two points and seven rebounds.

Leading Steinbrenner to victory were Sarah Coble and Samantha Coble. Sarah dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 steals, while Samantha went 6 of 10from beyond the arc on her way to 26 points and three steals. With that strong performance, Samantha is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. Another player making a difference was Sophia Du, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 15 points.

King's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Steinbrenner, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 8-0.

King will take on Freedom at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Steinbrenner, they will challenge Sickles at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Both have allowed few points on average, (Steinbrenner: 21, Sickles: 29.9) so any points scored will be well earned.
