Football Recap: Jared Hagger Key Part of Team Effort in Panthers Win

It was a proper cat-fight when Cypress Springs duked it out with Alief Taylor on Friday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 35-14 margin over the Lions. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 28-7.

Cypress Springs' win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jared Hagger, who rushed for 94 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 88 yards and one TD. Paris Melvin Jr was in the mix as well, providing the Panthers with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Cypress Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 215 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alief Taylor only rushed for 109 rushing yards.

Cypress Springs has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 28 points this season. As for Alief Taylor, their defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cypress Springs will head out to take on Jersey Village at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Alief Taylor, they will challenge Fort Bend Bush at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
