Softball Game Preview: Northside Vikings vs. Franklin County Eagles

The Northside Vikings will square off against the Franklin County Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Northside has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight defeats, while Franklin County will come in with four straight wins.

Northside lost 19-1 to William Byrd on Friday.

Meanwhile, Franklin County made easy work of Patrick Henry on Monday and carried off a 17-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won nine contests by nine runs or more so far this season.

Aleah Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Becca Merrick was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Madison Ingram was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.

Franklin County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive games.

Franklin County's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Northside, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
