Baseball Recap: Josh Ruwe Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Newport

Calvary Christian was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Newport on Monday. The Cougars' pitchers stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 16-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won nine in a row.

Hudson Neal and Case Craddock were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Neal tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Craddock tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Neal went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Craddock went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most hits Neal has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Calvary Christian got a massive performance out of Josh Ruwe, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Ruwe is becoming a predictor of the Cougars' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 6-8 when he doesn't). Cal Ruwe was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs.

Calvary Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newport only posted an OBP of .167.

Calvary Christian's victory bumped their record up to 16-8. As for Newport, they dropped their record down to 0-35 with the defeat, which was their 32nd straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Christian will head out to challenge Holmes at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Newport, they will venture away from home to take on New Richmond at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Wildcats are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
