Baseball Game Preview: West Warriors vs. Redondo Union Sea Hawks

The West Warriors will square off against the Redondo Union Sea Hawks at 3:15 p.m. on Friday. The last four games West has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

West's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They skirted past Palos Verdes 2-0. The victory was some much needed relief for the Warriors as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Not much got past Reef Sharman, who gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Palos Verdes off the board. Sharman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joey Campbell, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was Campbell's first of the season. Joey Kim was another, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Redondo Union's offense. They fell just short of Palos Verdes by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Sea Hawks were not able to get on the board.

West's victory was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Redondo Union, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. West has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Redondo Union struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
