Basketball Recap: Chambers/Wheeler Central Comes Up Short

If Chambers/Wheeler Central was riding high fresh off their 53-26 takedown of Boyd County on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Chambers/Wheeler Central Renegades received a blow on Saturday as they fell 45-30 to the St. Mary's Cardinals. The Renegades haven't had much luck with the Cardinals recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.

Despite the loss, Chambers/Wheeler Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Rose Woeppel posted four points and 15 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Woeppel a new career-high in boards.

St. Mary's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Annabelle Barlow, who had 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Barlow has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Williamson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

Chambers/Wheeler Central's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for St. Mary's, they pushed their record up to 12-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.

Chambers/Wheeler Central will welcome Bloomfield at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for St. Mary's, they will head out to face off against Cedar Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cedar Catholic will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something St. Mary's surely won't give up without a fight.
