Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Fresno Christian Eagles

Orcutt Academy and Fresno Christian are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2014, but not for long. The Orcutt Academy Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Fresno Christian Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Last Saturday, Orcutt Academy faced Riverdale Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Orcutt Academy was outmatched by Riverdale Christian on the road and fell 42-6. Orcutt Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-0.

Meanwhile, Fresno Christian put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They strolled past Sierra with points to spare, taking the game 48-34. Fresno Christian pushed the score to 42-22 by the end of the third, a deficit Sierra cut but never quite recovered from.

Fresno Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Logan Stotts out in front who threw for 309 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. Stotts hasn't dropped below three passing touchdowns for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Joshua Kubota, who picked up 210 receiving yards and five touchdowns.

This is the second loss in a row for Orcutt Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-4. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 10.0 points per game. As for Fresno Christian, their victory was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-0.

Orcutt Academy was dealt a bruising 54-14 defeat at the hands of Fresno Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Orcutt Academy, Joshua Chinn (who picked up 147 receiving yards and three touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
