Baseball Recap: Westchester Country Day Comes Up Short

It was a proper cat-fight when Westchester Country Day faced off against Calvary Day School on Tuesday. The Wildcats took a 20-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Jesse Covington was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring four runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Westchester Country Day's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 0-8 when he doesn't). Ryan Engle was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI.

Westchester Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Calvary Day School, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-6.

Calvary Day School wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 21-4 win against Parkland on the 16th. Hopefully Westchester Country Day payed attention to the Cougars' matchup: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
