Basketball Recap: Monterey Falls Despite Big Games from Jalee Johnson and Carly Wright

Monterey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 18th straight loss. They came up short against the Watertown Purple Tigers, falling 55-29. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 61-19 back in January.

Despite the defeat, Monterey had strong showings from Carly Wright, who went 5 for 11 to rack up 11 points, and Jalee Johnson, who posted seven points. That's the most points Wright has posted since back in December of 2023.

Monterey's loss dropped their record down to 1-23. As for Watertown, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Monterey will venture away from home to square off against York Institute at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Watertown, they are taking a road trip to face off against Smith County at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Smith County will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Watertown surely won't give up without a fight.
