Softball Game Preview: Ashley Screaming Eagle vs. South Brunswick Cougars

The Ashley Screaming Eagle will head out on the road to face off against the South Brunswick Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Ashley has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while South Brunswick will arrive with three straight victories.

On Wednesday, Ashley came up short against Lumberton and fell 11-7.

Leah Tuscany was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Laina Toudle was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask South Brunswick). Everything went their way against North Brunswick on Tuesday as South Brunswick made off with an 18-3 win. The Cougars might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.

South Brunswick got a massive performance out of Carly Clewis, who fired off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4. Those five RBI gave Clewis a new career-high. Another player making a difference was TyiAnna Cummings, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI.

South Brunswick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Brunswick only posted an OBP of .238.

South Brunswick's record now sits at 9-1. As for Ashley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-10.

Ashley suffered a grim 16-5 defeat to South Brunswick in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Ashley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
