Football Recap: ED White's Undefeated Season over After Five Games

After flying high against Parker last Friday, ED White came back down to earth. The Commanders fell just short of the Merritt Island Mustangs by a score of 52-49 on Friday. Despite 63 more yards than the Mustangs, the Commanders couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

When it comes to explaining why ED White lost, don't look at King Boylston. Despite the final result, he rushed for 115 yards and one score on only 11 carries, and also threw for 185 yards and three touchdowns on only 14 passes. Boylston has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Joseph Williams helped out on the ground, rushing for 107 yards.

Kevin Verpaele was his usual excellent self, throwing for 336 yards and five TDs while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 100 yards on only 14 carries for Merritt Island. Those 100 rushing yards gave Verpaele a new career-high. Drew Sarver was Verpaele's top target, picking up 108 receiving yards and one score.

Having lost for the first time this season, ED White fell to 4-1. As for Merritt Island, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 4-2.

Coming up, ED White will face off against Atlantic Coast at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 960 yards in their previous games. As for Merritt Island, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Eau Gallie at 7:00 p.m. on October 10.
