Basketball Game Preview: Poth Pirates vs. La Vernia Bears

The Poth Pirates will head out to challenge the La Vernia Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Poth is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Jones on Saturday. Poth greeted the New Year with with a 63-47 victory over Jones.

Meanwhile, La Vernia really took it to Luling for the full four quarters, racking up an 84-53 win. The Bears have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 21 points or more this season.

Poth has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 9-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for La Vernia, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-9.

Poth suffered a grim 60-37 defeat to La Vernia in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can Poth avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
