Softball Recap: Alanson Comes Up Short

Alanson had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 0-3 to make it seven. They came up short against the Ellsworth Lancers, falling 16-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Vikings of the 12-4 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

As for Ellsworth, they now have a winning record of 3-2. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Ellsworth's part, EmmaJo Meier made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meier has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Delaney Johnson, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that she has snagged this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Karli Gutting, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Alanson will square off against rival Harbor Light Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Ellsworth is set to take on their familiar foe Wolverine on Tuesday.
