Baseball Recap: 18 Straight Home Wins for Cheshire Academy

Cheshire Academy barely beat Pomfret School the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cats' pitchers stepped up to hand the Griffins a 6-0 shutout on Saturday. Considering the Cats have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Tyler Stone looked comfortable as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Luca Giannelli, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Chase Mendela was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Cheshire Academy's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 8.1 runs this season. As for Pomfret School, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheshire Academy will challenge Brunswick School at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pomfret School, they will square off against Wilbraham & Monson Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
