Recap: South Bronx Prep Cougars vs. Albany Falcons
It was a good run, but the South Bronx Prep Cougars unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 61-54 to Albany. While losing is never fun, South Bronx Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while Albany is ranked 11th).
Albany's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Azera Gates, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gates has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Iyana Weedon, who scored ten points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
South Bronx Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for Albany, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
South Bronx Prep on the road again on Sunday and play against Holy Cross at 11:30 a.m. on January 14th. Hopefully Holy Cross focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 last Wednesday. As for Albany, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Schenectady at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Schenectady comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
