Volleyball Recap: Black River Comes Up Short

If Black River was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Oberlin on Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pirates fell just short of the Columbia Raiders by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 back in August.

While Black River ultimately came up short, they really made Columbia work, particularly in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 21-25, 26-24, 25-18, 23-25, 15-11.

Despite the loss, Black River still got an impressive performance from Kate Dieter, who had ten digs and three aces. Dieter has been hot, having posted two or more aces the last five times she's played.

Black River's loss dropped their record down to 11-4. As for Columbia, they pushed their record up to 7-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
