Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for North Salinas

North Salinas won the last time they faced Watsonville and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 13-4 margin over the Wildcatz. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won four contests in a row.

Josh Degroodt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 16 over 5.1 innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. North Salinas is undefeated when Degroodt posts two or more runs, but 8-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Markus Camacho, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Julian Moreno also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

North Salinas always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .585. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Watsonville only posted an OBP of .222.

North Salinas' record is now 14-9. As for Watsonville, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 13 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-16 record this season.

North Salinas will have a chance to go back-to-back against Watsonville: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
