After flying high against Bandera last Wednesday, Davenport came back down to earth. The Davenport Wolves fell to the Wimberley Texans 63-57. The Wolves' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Davenport lost on Friday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Christian Mckinney, who went 6 for 11 en route to 17 points. Mckinney has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Joseph Danielsen was another key player, putting up 11 points.
Even though they lost, Davenport was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wimberley only racked up nine assists.
Gavin Olmer had a dynamite game for Wimberley, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 16 boards. The dominant performance gave Olmer a new career-high in rebounds. Bryson Anderson also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.
Davenport's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 23-5. As for Wimberley, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-8.
Davenport and Wimberley should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. Davenport (ranked 249th) will meet Navarro (ranked 1045th) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Davenport is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Meanwhile, Wimberley will square off against Canyon Lake at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday up 368 places (278 vs. 646). Davenport is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68.4 points per game this season.
