Softball Recap: Smithfield Comes Up Short

Smithfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 6-2 to the Jamestown Eagles. The Packers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

Smithfield saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paightyn McCoole, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base. That stolen base was McCoole's first of the season.

Smithfield's record is now 6-4. As for Jamestown, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Smithfield will take on Poquoson at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Jamestown, they will challenge York at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 10.6 runs per game this season.
