Baseball Recap: Crescent City Takes a Loss

Crescent City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hawthorne Hornets. The Raiders were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Jed Lewis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Crescent City saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trivauhn Bush, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Thomas Erkman was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-4.

Crescent City's loss dropped their record down to 2-11. As for Hawthorne, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-6 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crescent City will head out to face off against Interlachen at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Hawthorne, they will venture away from home to challenge Oak Hall at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games Oak Hall has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
