Baseball Recap: Waverly Takes a Loss

Waverly had lost seven straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 10-11 to make it eight. They fell just short of the Wheelersburg Pirates by a score of 3-2. That's two games in a row now that the Tigers have lost by just one run.

As for Wheelersburg, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games.

For Wheelersburg's part, Jack Picklesimer spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits and racked up ten Ks. Picklesimer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Wheelersburg saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cooper Heimbach, who went 3-for-5 with one run and one double. Those three hits gave Heimbach a new career-high.

Looking ahead, Waverly will welcome Marietta at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Waverly is facing Marietta at the right time seeing as Marietta is stuck on a three-game losing streak. Wheelersburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
